Carol works from her home studio in rural Angus, with views out to the foothills of the Cairngorm mountains that offer daily inspiration. She is a ceramics graduate of Grays School of Art in Aberdeen and has been running her ceramics studio since 1991. For 15 years she ran her hand made tile studio and gallery in Edinburgh, gradually developing her practice to become an exhibiting artist.
Gilles makes a variety of functional and one –off thrown stoneware pieces. His forms are freely manipulated on the potter’s wheel, some are altered and joined to construct taller larger pieces, other have incised marks applied to the soft clay revealing a subtle and tactile quality to the work, carrying a sense of captured sculptural movement.
Duncan’s fascination with clay began as a child in his parents’ garden. The colour, smell and malleability of the earth led him to discover at school the transformation of clay by heat into a permanent object. As a teenager, Duncan was captivated by seeing his teacher throwing a pot on a kick-wheel, his bedroom posters were images of communist revolutionary heroes and 20th-century studio pottery.
Graham’s interest in ceramics began at York School of Art in the 1960s and continued at Cardiff College of Art, graduating from there in 1971.He later worked at both colleges as a ceramics technician and having retired from Cardiff (now Cardiff Metropolitan University) in 2009, Graham established a workshop in Gloucestershire.
Since 2000 Owen Thorpe has been producing ‘families’ of pots using recurring themes and he has been making bowls and plates with inscriptions. All his work is made using a soft stoneware, high fired with occasional further enamel firings.
Lesley was born in Lancashire, England and is based in Stoke Newington in London.
She discovered ceramics at an early age, in Australia, where the textures and colours of the landscapes and terrain greatly influenced her. She studied firstly in Australia where she gained a Diploma (Distinction) in Ceramics at Caulfield Institute of Technology in 1982.
