Geoffrey Swindell was born in Stoke-on-Trent. First studying painting, it wasn’t until he took up a summer job at the Pottery at Alton Towers that he decided to follow in the footsteps of his ancestor and become a potter.
Award-winning artist, Ashraf Hanna works with the vessel to explore relations between profile, line, and space. Using a process of handbuilding, and working with colour and texture, Hanna examines the juxtaposition of sharp lines and soft curves.
Lisa Hammond MBE is a soda firing potter who works at Maze Hill Pottery, Greenwich, London. She has been making pots for best part of 40 years in which time she has taught extensively and pioneered soda glaze and shino firings.
Clare Conrad's work is an exploration of colour and texture, inspired by the effects of light and ageing on architecture, artefacts and landscape. Her technique of layering vitreous slip onto wheel-thrown vessels, vases and bowls creates a rugged texture.
Carolyn Genders creates bold, asymmetric sculptural vessels and forms in white earthenware with surfaces painted with abstracted imagery. With a 40 year career in pottery, two books on ceramic practices published by A&C Black, and work held in collections across the world Carolyn is a prominent UK maker.
