All of our makers are members of the Craft Potters Association and each of them have a story to tell.

Anne Butler

Anne Butler trained in Ceramics in the University of Ulster and the University of Wales in Cardiff and now works from her studio in Northern Ireland. The Eclipse vessels are inspired by the light and shadows cast in the urban environment.

Tiffany Scull

Tiffany Scull works from her Dorset studio based on the beautiful Isle of Portland creating ceramic forms decorated by hand with detailed sgraffito drawings of many different plants and animals from around the world. She started her journey and development of using sgraffito 20 years ago and has been a professional ceramicist for over 18 years. Over time she has developed a very distinctive and unique way of painting with clay slips, carving and using sgraffito to draw her designs onto each form.

Clive Bowen

Clive Bowen was born in Cardiff in 1943. Initially studying painting and etching at Cardiff College of Art from 1960 to 1964, Clive went on to train as an apprentice with Michael Leach at the Yelland Pottery in North Devon from 1965 until 1969. He worked alongside Michael Cardew at Wenford Bridge before setting up his own pottery in 1971 when he bought a small agricultural property at Shebbear, near Holsworthy in North Devon and set up a workshop in the former farm outhouses.

John Christie

John left art school in 1970 and dug trenches for gas pipes for a living. Later, through his college friend’s brother (who was a potter) John worked for David Frith in North Wales. He found the discipline hard, but it has stood him in good stead ever since.

Christine-Ann Richards

Christine-Ann trained at Harrow School of Art and Technology with Mick Casson (1971-73), then worked with David Leach. In London, she started her own workshop as a member of the Barbican Arts Group (1975-83) and in 1976 became a Selected Member of the Craftsmen Potters Association and the Society of Designer Craftsmen. She now works from her home, a converted chapel near Frome in Somerset.

Emily Stubbs

Based in North Yorkshire, Emily graduated with a BA(Hons) in Ceramics from University of Wales, Cardiff in 2007. She went on to co-found PICA Studios - an artist led studio collective of 23 artists, makers, writers, and thinkers set within an 18th century printworks in the centre of historic York.
