Gilles makes a variety of functional and one –off thrown stoneware pieces. His forms are freely manipulated on the potter’s wheel, some are altered and joined to construct taller larger pieces, other have incised marks applied to the soft clay revealing a subtle and tactile quality to the work, carrying a sense of captured sculptural movement.
Angela has been working in bone china since 1991 using traditional slip casting techniques: designing her own models, making plaster moulds, and finally slipcasting translucent pieces. Conventional forms, vessels, bowls and plates retain both their functional identity but also serve as a natural canvas for decoration. Her work develops in series mostly inspired by nature; depending on the decoration each series has its own identity.
Philip Wood has been making pots for over 40 years. Specialising in earthernware, he creates handmade pieces to enhance the lives of those around them.
Jennifer graduated from Cardiff Institute of Higher Education back in 1994, followed by work as a thrower and decorator for Gwili Pottery, Carmarthen. Jennifer set up her first pottery in 1997 in Buckinghamshire, later in 2001 she moved to Llanwrthwl, Powys to establish her successful studio.
Daniel graduated from the Harrow Studio Ceramics course in 1991, then had a shared workspace space at Kate Malone’s Balls Pond studios in London before returning to work as a technician and studio manager on the Harrow ceramics course. In 1997, he moved to West Wales to set up a studio on a smallholding where he has continued to develop his work and firings for the past 23 years. Daniel exhibits widely across the UK, Europe and internationally.
Sandy Brown has been making ceramics now for over 50 years and is internationally known. After being introduced to ceramics in Japan, Sandy learned there that pots can be dynamic, exciting, free, and irregular. Moreover, they can be loved and used for those qualities.
