This sculpture is hand-built in porcelain. The detailed mosaic-like surface design is achieved by the application of thin printed porcelain tiles. The patterns are inspired by medieval floor tiles, Victorian wallpapers and 18th Century needlepoint. Susan creates animation of the form partly through her modelling and partly through chance in the heat of the kiln. Her creatures speak to our connection with nature and the stories they hold.
