Inspired by traditional Japanese pottery, this sculptural piece is hand-built with stoneware fragments of pots which have been wood-fired in a chamber kiln. The pieces are chiselled after firing and sandwiched between sheets of thick glass panels to reveal the essence of the piece – the archetypal vessels of Martin’s imagination.
Hand Built, Slab Built
Please note: This piece is part of our current exhibition and cannot be collected or delivered until after the exhibition has closed on Saturday 13th August 2022.
About this maker
Martin describes his work as ‘ Clay – Water – Wood – Fire – Space’. These five elements are synthesised to create a reversed trompe-l’œil type of work, seemingly excavated or revealed, and simultaneously diminishing the third dimension.
