Ashley Howard creates porcelain vessels informed by Far-Eastern and homespun pottery traditions. His pieces draw from his interest in ritual vessels, the spaces they occupy and the ceremonies that surround them.
Alasdair Neil's ideas focus on the strange beauty found in the decaying architecture of industrial wastelands. He has built up a large collection of clay and plaster moulds that he has made from the surfaces of found fragments of discarded waste. It is these textures, patterns, shapes and colours that form the thread that runs throughout his entire range of unique hand built forms
Gaby trained in Ceramics at Goldsmiths College and established her studio in 1982 with the help of a Crafts Council Setting-up Grant. She has exhibited widely in the UK, Europe and America, and China, and her work is represented worldwide in private and public collections.
Duncan’s fascination with clay began as a child in his parents’ garden. The colour, smell and malleability of the earth led him to discover at school the transformation of clay by heat into a permanent object. As a teenager, Duncan was captivated by seeing his teacher throwing a pot on a kick-wheel, his bedroom posters were images of communist revolutionary heroes and 20th-century studio pottery.
Akiko Hirai produces both practical and decorative ceramic ware that is held in private collections and museums worldwide. Her Japanese background and aesthetics strongly influence her ceramic work while her pieces are also perfectly rooted in contemporary designs.
Micki makes wood-fired salt-glazed tableware, fired to a high stoneware temperature. Travelling in India in 1968, Micki came across their ubiquitous everyday earthenware pots. She loved the connection between the earth and the pots and was introduced to throwing on a Leach wheel by Gurcharan Singh of Delhi Blue Potteries.
