Tricia comes from Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and studied ceramics at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen in the 1980’s. After a three-year spell working as a decorator/designer in a production pottery in the Highlands, she moved to Edinburgh to become a ceramic artist specialising in wheel-thrown porcelain.
She is attracted to working with porcelain, because of the perceived fragility but inherent strength, and is motivated by the process… the meditative, calming, repetitive nature of throwing on the wheel is what sustains her. In her practice, she frequently returns to the teapot form as a vehicle to explore the challenges of composition, proportions and function. By expanding her throwing skills, she strives to further exploit those unique porcelain qualities. She enjoys the process of articulating handles, spouts and lids, and playing with the subtle balance of curves that make a form sing.
