All of our makers are members of the Craft Potters Association and each of them have a story to tell.
Björk’s professional background is in Architecture and her work remains unequivocally architectural to her eyes and is influenced by her training and profession in many ways. However, natural forms reflecting her upbringing in Iceland and exposure to the extraordinary in nature are also reference points.
Karen throws carefully considered porcelain pots for everyday use. Her forms are elegant yet robust: these are pots to be held, filled, drunk out of and eaten from. The purposeful use of one material (porcelain), a single creamy white glaze, a deliberately restricted vocabulary of form and the process of repetition throwing combine to create both unity and diversity in her work.
Ben Arnup’s interest in ceramics started at home. With a sculptor and a potter as parents, he grew up learning ceramics skills and technology. Ben has exhibited in Britain, Europe and America, his work is represented in public collections in Britain and Germany.
Anne Butler trained in Ceramics in the University of Ulster and the University of Wales in Cardiff and now works from her studio in Northern Ireland. The Eclipse vessels are inspired by the light and shadows cast in the urban environment.
Her work captures her imaginary life and real life, which overlap. She used to pretend to live as a ‘normal’ person in society but wildness took over the thin veneer and it consumed her. Once she started making sculpture, all those layers of pretention fell away. She was finally one whole person.
