All of our makers are members of the Craft Potters Association and each of them have a story to tell.

Bev Bell-Hughes

When Bev was at art school in the late sixties, her final thesis focused on the relationship between natural forms and clay. However, it was only since 1978 when she moved to Wales, that she developed her work to relate directly to where she lives.

Stephen Parry

Stephen Parry first trained at Croydon College of Art between 1974 - 1977, then moving on to Dartington Workshop until 1979 before discovering a passion for wood-fired ceramics in France.

Owen Thorpe

Since 2000 Owen Thorpe has been producing ‘families’ of pots using recurring themes and he has been making bowls and plates with inscriptions. All his work is made using a soft stoneware, high fired with occasional further enamel firings.

Judy McKenzie

After a long and varied career in design and printing, Judy changed direction and followed her passion for ceramics.  At the age of sixty she enrolled for a 3D Craft and Design BA at a local college and graduated with a 1st Class (Hons). Judy went on to gain an MA at the Royal College of Art, specialising in Nerikomi and Kintsugi.

Stephen Murfitt

Stephen’s first pots were made at Soham Grammar School in the late 1960s-early 70s where his art teacher and early mentor, Peter Askem helped and encouraged his to move onto the Foundation Course in Art and Design at Cambridge College of Arts and Technology.

He then progressed onto the BA Hons course in 3D Design (Ceramics) at West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham.  The tutors and visiting lecturers at Farnham included Sebastian Blackie and Mo Jupp. Stephen found the ‘Farnham experience’ to be life changing.
