Sarah makes functional pieces for the home. She has multiple influences including English Delftware and East Asian celadon ware. Her work is also inspired by coastal landscapes, plants, paint colours and fabrics. Soft natural colours are a strong characteristic of Sarah’s work.
Each piece is hand thrown on a potter’s wheel in porcelain on which relief textures are applied. Delicate textural accents of wildflowers, grasses, and other vegetation combined with a natural colour palette of translucent glazes enhance her clean lined forms, creating a contemporary and delicate collection of domestic ware. Her current collection is focused on planters and vases and explores ways to display cut flowers through a series of forms.
After teaching ceramics in adult education for 5 years, Sarah started teaching from her garden studio in Cambridge where she continues to teach wheel-throwing to small groups as well as produce her own work.
“In my work I aim to make elegant and useful pieces and hope that my work encourages constant use.”
