Claire Ireland

Claire graduated from Camberwell College of Art with a BA in Ceramics and has since taught ceramics courses from beginners to degree level at schools and colleges. Alongside teaching, she produces work, including pieces for commission and educational projects. Claire’s studio is based at the London Museum of Water and Steam. From there, she capitalises on the creative atmosphere, facilities, and special location to inspire her creations.

Collecting and arranging manmade and natural forms provides Claire with great enjoyment and creative impulse for her making.  Crucial to her creative process is her discipline of drawing and keeping a continuous sketchbook of ideas and studies. Sculptural forms have emerged through extensive research and exploration of alternative hand-building techniques. Smoky and painterly surfaces envelop her ceramic forms and are integral to the whole.
