Peter Lane

Porcelain, with its fine texture, purity and whiteness, allows Peter to explore relationships between form and surface in a way that is more rewarding than with any other clay. Wheel-thrown vessel forms offer infinite opportunities for subtle variations, but his particular concern, while attempting to achieve harmony and balance in the work, is to express his feelings for the natural world through the positive radiation of light and colour. Skies, sea and landscapes, together with the multitude of flora, are a constant source of wonder, inspiration and delight to him. Mountains, especially, have fascinated him since first introduced to the English Lake District as a student at Bath Academy of Art in the mid-1950s.

Now retired from teaching, Peter has spent over thirty years of full-time teaching in schools, colleges and university in England. He has extensively exhibited, lectured and given workshop demonstrations nationally and internationally. Peter has published several books on porcelain and ceramics in general.

In recognition of his significant impact on the craft community, Peter has been elected as an Honorary Fellow of The Craft Potters Association of Great Britain and The Society of Designer-Craftsmen, as well as a Full Member of MAKE Southwest (formerly The Devon Guild of Craftsmen).
