After a career in the fashion industry, Sue began her journey in ceramics in 2017 as a beginner at Putney School of Art. Captivated by the tactile nature of clay, she went on to study on the HND Ceramics course at Morley College London, graduating in 2020. She is currently completing her BA in Ceramics at Morley.
Her work explores visual and conceptual parallels between the body’s internal structures and the flow systems found in the natural world. She is particularly drawn to the ambiguity of these connections, observing how veins and arteries mirror the intricate networks of roots, rivers, and lava.
Working primarily as a hand-builder, Sue assembles tubes of porcelain or terracotta paper clay into elaborate, tangled structures that evoke the complex and fragile pathways shared by body and nature. Her distinctive candelabra blur the boundaries between sculpture and function, and are characterised by organic, interwoven forms and richly textured glazes.
Her work has been featured in galleries including Grove Vale Ceramics, Thrown Contemporary, House of Pots, and Cambridge Contemporary Art. She has exhibited at Ceramic Art London and is a member of both the Crafts Council Directory and the Homo Faber Guide.
