SV569Y2 Dark Carrier Beast and Frond
This hand-built sculpture is made using stoneware and porcelain clay bodies, combined with found materials, and features subtle rose gold detail. It is composed of multiple separate elements, each with a central hole, that are stacked and secured onto the main figure via a ceramic peg. Shirley’s intention is for the order of stacking to be left to the individual, allowing a sense of play in the composition.
Please handle with care, particularly the ceramic peg, as it is delicate.

About this maker
Shirley has been making things for as long as she can remember. With a background in textiles and a degree in Surface Decoration from Leicester Polytechnic, her early fascination with ceramics began while visiting the ceramics department, which felt to her like an alchemist’s world. Years later, during a period of personal change, she joined an evening hand-building course and was immediately drawn to clay. What began as a source of calm and focus has since developed into an intuitive, largely self-taught practice.
