Duncan’s fascination with clay began as a child in his parents’ garden. The colour, smell and malleability of the earth led him to discover at school the transformation of clay by heat into a permanent object. As a teenager, Duncan was captivated by seeing his teacher throwing a pot on a kick-wheel, his bedroom posters were images of communist revolutionary heroes and 20th-century studio pottery.
Sarah makes functional pieces for the home. She has multiple influences including English Delftware and East Asian celadon ware. Her work is also inspired by coastal landscapes, plants, paint colours and fabrics. Soft natural colours are a strong characteristic of Sarah’s work.
Antonia Salmon’s ceramic sculptures have been exhibited and sold into collections throughout the UK and internationally for over 35 years. She has also worked with interior designers and individuals to complete commissions for corporate, hotel and home collections.
Yusun is drawn by the vessel form. She found a way to explore vessel forms while observing a bottle from the Korean Joseon Dynasty which was constructed by joining two different forms. Looking at the attached part of the bottle, she imagined opening the enclosed part and seeing what was hidden inside.
Christine-Ann trained at Harrow School of Art and Technology with Mick Casson (1971-73), then worked with David Leach. In London, she started her own workshop as a member of the Barbican Arts Group (1975-83) and in 1976 became a Selected Member of the Craftsmen Potters Association and the Society of Designer Craftsmen. She now works from her home, a converted chapel near Frome in Somerset.
Since 2000 Owen Thorpe has been producing ‘families’ of pots using recurring themes and he has been making bowls and plates with inscriptions. All his work is made using a soft stoneware, high fired with occasional further enamel firings.
