Porcelain, with its fine texture, purity and whiteness, allowed Peter to explore relationships between form and surface in a way that was more rewarding than with any other clay. Wheel-thrown vessel forms offered infinite opportunities for subtle variations, but his particular concern, while attempting to achieve harmony and balance in the work, was to express his feelings for the natural world through the positive radiation of light and colour.
Yo Thom is a Japanese potter based in North Dorset. Her journey as a potter began when working for Lisa Hammond MBE in 1998 whilst studying ceramics in Kent. She trained as a functional thrower at Maze Hill Pottery, Greenwich, then set up her own studio in 2004. Yo relocated her pottery to North Dorset in 2009.
David was born in 1943 in Lancashire, he trained at Flintshire Technical College, Wimbledon School of Art, and Stoke on Trent College of Art, studying under Derek Emms. After meeting and marrying Margaret, a fellow potter, they established their first workshop in 1963 in Denbigh, North Wales. David’s work descends from the Leach and British Studio Pottery tradition, where the aesthetics and ideologies of the East and West ignited a new tradition of high fired ceramics. He makes large bottles, jars and platters with a base celadon glaze decorated with his personal style of hakeme, rope impress and waxed motifs under heavy reduction overglazes and combined with ashed surfaces.
Sara Dodd is a Welsh ceramic artist living and working in North London. Training at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Sara graduated in 2013 with a BA(Hons) in Ceramics. Sara is interested in sky and landscapes often referencing the regions of South Wales where she grew up. Sara has recently begun exploring the passage of time in relation to these ideas and locations.
Charles was born in New York City in 1939. After graduating from Union University in 1962 with a degree in English Literature, Charles spent the next three years teaching at secondary level. From 1965 to 1971 he worked for a publishing company, dividing his time between the USA and Africa. By 1972 he was juggling a variety of commitments: teaching, travelling, writing and theatre work, mostly in Kenya.
