Mitch Pilkington

Originally from Kent, Mitch studied Ceramic Design at Falmouth School of Art during the early 1990s. She creates hand-built sculptural ceramics inspired by the natural forms from her coastal finds, both at home in North Devon and on her travels. Her stoneware vessels hark back to the dry, worn spirals of old conch shells collected on Caribbean beaches.

Mitch’s sculptures are hand-formed and intuitive in their construction. The rhythmic, meditative and mindful process of coiling, and the many hours of scraping and sculpting means each piece is an emotional response to the clay, generating an underlying quality to her work which imbues each piece with a unique sense of calm, serenity and connection. Mitch’s work is continually evolving in tune with her life and intuition.

“I am interested in infusing my work with movement, creating satisfying lines to follow and engage the onlooker.”
