This stoneware vase is wheel-thrown and altered, then finished with copper red marks over tenmoku and kaki glazes. James makes his own glazes from locally sourced materials gathered from quarries and clay seams in the countryside surrounding his studio. Applied intuitively through dipping, pouring, and brushing in varying combinations, the glazes interact to produce fluid, dynamic surfaces.
