Contemporary Ceramics gallery and shop exhibits the greatest collectable names in British ceramics along with the most up and coming artists of today. Our distinguished makers are all carefully selected members of the Craft Potters Association.
All of our makers are members of the Craft Potters Association and each of them have a story to tell.
Andy was born and raised in North Staffordshire, aware of the nearby manufactured ceramics and the historical legacy of ‘The Potteries’. Beyond pottery lessons at school, Andy undertook a vocational craft-based course at the University of Derby.
The functional wheel-thrown pots that Carl creates are modest but highly
considered and precisely made, sometimes altered when wet, often with
spontaneous, energetic surface marks. Everything is conceived in the
knowledge that his work will be wood-fired.
Geoffrey Swindell was born in Stoke-on-Trent. First studying painting, it wasn’t until he took up a summer job at the Pottery at Alton Towers that he decided to follow in the footsteps of his ancestor and become a potter.
Fiona’s focus is mainly on hand built ceramic vessels, with multiple layered surfaces. They combine traditional and contemporary processes. Pieces are first usually coiled or slab built, then painted and printed with coloured slips.
Jitka was born in Prague. She studied medicine and worked as an anatomist. In 1985, she moved to Britain and studied ceramics at Croydon College of Art and Design and Stone Masonry at City of Bath College. She set up her studio in London with the help of a Crafts Council grant. She lives and works in Bristol.
Having practiced as a ceramic artist since 2001, Lowri predominantly creates decorative bone china tableware from her studio in Cardiff.
Lowri's early work was very much about documenting a way of life that was disappearing. She deliberately uses industrial processes to create her work, but on a very small scale. It is the same process that was used to make most of the ceramics that adorned her Nain’s home (grandmother).
