Emma’s ceramics practice is built on notions of what is known as Emotionally Durable design. She uses the making language of ceramics and a design sensibility to make work which is contemporary and relevant over time.
Kyra Cane grew up in the small Nottinghamshire town of Southwell in the East Midlands and attended Camberwell College of Art and Craft in the early 1980’s to study Ceramics. Kyra now works from her studio based on the Welbeck Estate, Nottingham.
Kim's work is inspired by the history, geology and people of South Wales, where she has lived and worked throughout her career. Some of her ceramics work is a direct response to historical events, whilst other pieces explore wider, more general themes and narratives. The geological structure of the South Wales Coalfield is a current theme, acting as a metaphor for the way that communities bury and distort the past, creating memories that fit their contemporary needs.
Duncan’s fascination with clay began as a child in his parents’ garden. The colour, smell and malleability of the earth led him to discover at school the transformation of clay by heat into a permanent object. As a teenager, Duncan was captivated by seeing his teacher throwing a pot on a kick-wheel, his bedroom posters were images of communist revolutionary heroes and 20th-century studio pottery.
Susan was born and grew up in Cork, Ireland. In 1991 she received a Certificate with Merit from the Grennan Mill Craft School in Co. Kilkenny. From there she moved to Scotland and the Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 1999 with a First Class Honours Degree in Design and Applied Arts and a Post Graduate Diploma in Ceramics in 2000. Susan exhibits widely in solo and group exhibitions in the UK, Ireland and abroad.
