Meet Our Makers

All of our makers are members of the Craft Potters Association and each of them have a story to tell.

Jitka Palmer

Jitka was born in Prague. She studied medicine and worked as an anatomist. In 1985, she moved to Britain and studied ceramics at Croydon College of Art and Design and Stone Masonry at City of Bath College. She set up her studio in London with the help of a Crafts Council grant. She lives and works in Bristol.

Jeremy Steward

Jeremy trained in Falmouth, Cornwall and then in Cardiff before being invited to join Wobage Workshop in rural Herefordshire in 1995. From here, he makes wheel-thrown, wood-fired salt-glazed stoneware and porcelain. He and his wife Petra, also a potter and printmaker, live on the edge of the Forest of Dean. They were invited to join the Wobage studios as part-time apprentices to Mick and Sheila Casson, a role they maintained until Mick’s death in 2003.

Ostinelli and Priest

Gaynor Ostinelli and Paul Priest, or Ostinelli & Priest, are well known for their animal sculptures which draw on both domestic and wildlife. Exhibited around the world, their work is represented in numerous galleries, public and private collections in the UK and overseas. The animals and mythical figures they sculpt vary as their subjects, and the demand for the work, expands.

Kirsty Macrae

Kirsty graduated from the Fine Art: Painting and Printmaking course at Glasgow School of Art in 2009. She subsequently attended life sculpture classes which led her to working with clay.  
Inspired by day-to-day experiences, local landscape and wildlife, Kirsty’s ceramics are an exploration of gesture, form, colour, and place.

Jin Eui Kim

Jin Eui Kim is an internationally renowned ceramic artist. Originally from South Korea, he now lives and works in Cardiff, UK.

Whilst at Cardiff School of Art & Design, Jin Eui studied the illusory effects of the application of tonal bands to three-dimensional surfaces. He graduated with an MA and PhD in Ceramics.

Mitch Pilkington

Originally from Kent, Mitch studied Ceramic Design at Falmouth School of Art during the early 1990s. She creates hand-built sculptural ceramics inspired by the natural forms from her coastal finds, both at home in North Devon and on her travels. Her stoneware vessels hark back to the dry, worn spirals of old conch shells collected on Caribbean beaches.
